Peculiarly pantheist approach to environmentalism which aims to encourage a close personal relationshipƒ between you and the wild places on Earth. Treasured Earth is in the early stages of establishing a network of wild sites and wild news. At the moment it includes links to places like the Wilderness Leadership School with scary boy adventure stories from rangers in the South African bush. There's also some superb photography from wildlife cameraman Rod Borland (a great shot of an elephant in Botswana) and, very appropriately, some Windows wallpaper of stormy clouds, a fisheagle or a scaly creature (could be a croc?).

A porky page with a sense of humour from its chubby little snout to its stumpy little tail. Sections include Q: What's the newest 'fad' for pot-bellied pig owners? A: Eating their pets and Q: How do I spot a potbellied pig from a mile away? A: See the the saggy tummed diagram. Also some porky snorts and stray snaps of the page compiler's dog, Frisbee, and pig, Dweezil. That's Dweezil on waterbed, Dweezil cuddling the dog and Dweezil within hours of being born. Sweet.

Here's a well-cool illustrated hypertexted adventure which has kids answering realtime wildlife questions to save endangered species from poachers and following clues leading to a treasure chest. And there's the chance to win some CDs or a year's free Internet account with free home page. The game's intro'd by cartoon bear Safari Sam, and provides lotsa online help, including a clickable dictionary for words you don't understand and an info centre to swot up for the questions. Great for UK tots who don't even have to buy the cereal to have fun and learn.

This is as close as you're likely to get to the definitive information on the wonders of the animal kingdom. The site offers a comprehensive guide to wild cats and dogs, bears, lizards and snakes, to name but a few. The detail means it's literally raining felidae and canidae (cats and dogs), as the site is adorned with the animals' latin names and colourful pictures. The information roars through the individual animal characteristics, life cycles and in-depth vital statistics, diet and weight included. Superb pictures and encyclopaedic details make this suitable for the casual browser or the diligent researcher. Although slow in places, the only thing not on this site is a Don't feed the animals sign!

The Centre for Alternative Technology is a well established educational charity based in Wales which works for a sustainable future. It tests and displays strategies and tools for doing this and these pages form a useful introduction to its work. You can find out how good or bad your lifestyle is for the planet, take a rather basic virtual tour of the organisation's physical site, and 'buy green by email' using its online catalogue of books and products. Worthy and worthwhile.

Instead of playing with your sex wax, surf the Net and stop the shit. Surfers Against Sewage is a non-profit making, apolitical pressure group and instead of just ranting about misjustices and saying 'dude' a lot , they offer a practical three-step process for treating the evil effluent polluting our seashores. Whether you surf or not, this is an important environmental issue, so don't wait 'til you swallow a yucky used condom surf's up.

This is a great page for kids. First pick an animal, check out the sound file of it making its characteristic noise, then compare how it's written in several different languages. Take, for instance, the donkey. In English it says hee haw. In French it goes hihan (a bit like Charles Asnavour) and in Ukranian it says ii-aa, ii-aa! The duck says quack quack but in Korean it's kkoyk-kkoyk and in Thai gaab gaab. Get the hang of it? Hours of ridiculous fun.

This site follows a by now familiar structure of describe subject of site (in this instance the 'breed standard' section), write up its history, show some pictures, add a few quirky statistics and fun facts, a bit of news perhaps, and then list other Internet links and resources on said subject. It's a good format and no less interesting for all that, especially if you're interested in the handbag-sized, peek-faced, Spitz type Pomeranian (originally a British dog apparently, but now more popular in the US). If you're still in the dark as to the exact size and shape of the aforementioned breed's fluffy little features, then you can spot the dog as a pet of wilfully ambitious weather girl Nicole Kidman in To Die For or ordering hotdogs in Dumb and Dumber. That came from the quirky statistics and fun facts bit!

Apparently the purity of a person's heart can be quickly measured by how they regard animals and you get no marks on PetStation if you're into picking the wings off flies or spend the odd afternoon chasing hedgehogs or kicking cats. This is a very intense experience, almost surreal in its over the top anthropomorphism. It acknowledges the support psychology offered by a favourite animal or pet and even provides a forum for PetStation Teentalk! Soppy sentimentality aside, it is also a great source of information on the dos and don'ts of pet keeping. Specialist material on different species can be accessed via the bird barn, cat cabana, the dog domain, fish fair, horse heaven or a small mammal medley! Ace Ventura types ahoy!

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals is the organisation that got Paul McCartney to leave rude messages on a pharmaceutical company's ansaphone, Melissa Ethridge to get her kit off and Woody Harrelson to lend his voiceover to last year's biggest anti-Gilette campaign. It's a media-mad animal rights group that has successfully harnessed the power of celebrity and consequently has a lot of lessons for equivalent organisations over here. Read about offending companies, research on cruel animal experiments and PETA's campaigns. There is advice on how to live life and make things better for animals as well as an online shopping centre for caring consumers. Other excerpts include vegan recipes from the Compassionate Cook. Squeamish types: be prepared.
